The exam is scheduled to be conducted on 6th, 7th, 13th, 14th, 20th, and 21st February 2027, while registration started on 2nd September 2026, and the application window will remain open until 27th September 2026 without a late fee.

GATE Exam Pattern and Main Highlights 2027

The GATE exam is one of the most important and widely accepted national-level entrance examinations for admission to postgraduate programmes in engineering, technology, and science-related disciplines. Apart from admission to master's degree programmes, the GATE score is also considered by several top companies as part of their recruitment process. GATE Registration Process, Fee, Admit Card Download

All applicants are required to visit the official IIT Madras website or the GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS) for registration, fee payment, admit card download, answer key download, and scorecard download. The registration process includes creating an account on the website, filling out the application form, and paying the application fee. The fee may vary depending on the candidate's category. The steps are as follows:

  1. Visit the official GATE 2027 website and registration page.
  2. Click on the “Apply” or “Registration” link to start the registration process.
  3. Enter and submit your personal details, including your contact number, email ID, and other required information.
  4. Click on “Create Account” to receive your registration/enrolment ID.
  5. In the next step, log in to the GATE application portal and enter all the required personal details.
  6. Enter your academic details, including information about your undergraduate degree, year of completion, and institution.
  7. Select the GATE paper you want to appear for. Make sure you meet the eligibility criteria before selecting a particular paper or combination of papers.
  8. Finally, upload the required documents and pay the application fee. Candidates applying under reserved categories must also upload the relevant supporting documents.

Note: The GATE 2027 Admit Card date has not yet been confirmed. IIT Madras is expected to announce the date shortly. All applicants will be required to visit the official GATE website, log in to their accounts, and click on the “Download Admit Card” link.

Eligibility Criteria for GATE 2027

Success in the GATE exam enables students to apply for M.Tech or master's programmes at prestigious engineering institutions. Hence, candidates must have completed or be pursuing a qualifying degree from a recognised university or institution. Final-year students are also eligible to appear for the GATE exam, subject to the prescribed eligibility requirements. Age Limit

There is no minimum or maximum age limit for appearing in GATE 2027.

Educational Qualification

Candidates must be enrolled in or have completed an eligible undergraduate degree in Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Science, Commerce, Arts, or Humanities, as specified by the GATE authorities.

Current Undergraduate Students

Candidates studying in the 3rd year or higher of an eligible undergraduate degree programme can apply.

Graduates

Candidates who have already completed an eligible degree can appear for the examination.

Recognised Institution

The qualifying degree must be from a recognised university or institution.

Number of Attempts

There is no restriction on the number of attempts. Eligible candidates can appear for GATE multiple times.

Backlogs

Candidates should fulfil the qualifying-degree requirements specified in the official GATE 2027 information brochure.

GATE Paper Selection

Candidates can select one or two papers, subject to the officially permitted paper combinations and applicable eligibility conditions.
